The trip to and from Mauthausen was comfortable safe and informative about Vienna and countryside.
We had plenty of time at Mauthausen I felt the tour could have offered more. For example we could have visited the quarry and the steps of death so important to the whole dreadful story.
Mauthausen itself was moving and informative although I did wonder if the role of Austria was downplayed.

Hi Alexander, thank you for your feedback, we really appreciate it! We usually make a point of taking our guests down to the quarry. I'm not sure why that didn't happen during your tour and I'm very sorry you didn't experience that. We already talked to our drivers to make sure this won't happen in the future. While it's fair to say that Austria has a history of victimising itself and downplaying its role, I don't think that is the case at Mauthausen Memorial.

The concentration camp was well worth visiting and I would highly recommend it but not through TripAdvisor. It was way too expensive considering it was a van ride each way with minor commentary on the surroundings and history. You could have the same experience with a train ticket and the normal audio guide at the camp

Jack, thank you for taking the time to share your opinion on our tour. We are really sorry that you didn't have the experience that you expected but glad that at least the memorial itself could make up for part of it. Our drivers do provide commentary on the surroundings and history, as you said, and if our guests are interested, we also show a documentary about Mauthausen concentration camp during the drive. We can assure you that, albeit cheaper, getting to Mauthausen Memorial by public transportation would not have been the same experience.

Notre guide chauffeur était disponible et nous à présenté ce qu’il fallait voir en sortant de Vienne. C’était intéressant de découvrir ce qu’il reste du camp et la visite correspondait à mes attentes. Audio guide super intéressant

This was a great tour the guide was friendly and knowledgeable and very helpful. However I would’ve liked the guide to guide us through the memorial and not an audio guide.

Thank you, Nathaniel, for taking the time to review your experience! I am very sorry that we didn't fully meet your expectations but relieved that you thought it was a great tour nonetheless. Many people prefer to explore the memorial on their own, but of course that's not for everyone.

One needs a proper perspective to take a day trip like this. It certainly cannot be considered fun to visit a site where great horror and evil has occurred, but it can be very meaningful. By remembering and understanding the past, hopefully we can avoid anything like this occurring ever again.
The tour pick up point is near to the Albertina museum. We had given ourselves plenty of time to arrive early by tram, but there was an issue with the tram service and we were forced to walk. Our tour guide was in contact by phone and we made it just in time to the meeting point. There were a total of 8 people taking this day trip.
Our tour guide was very knowledgable and gave an overview of the Naschmarkt and other attractions in Vienna as we drove through the city on our way to Linz. Once we got on the open road, there was an informative documentary about Mauthausen for use to watch during the two-hour trip to the concentration camp.
Once at Mauthausen itself, it becomes a self-guided tour using a provided audio guide. I appreciated the opportunity to go at my own pace through the camp. There are many, many exhibits, so one must be conscious of the time when reading through the provided history.
Typically, the quarry itself is not accessible from a visit to the camp, but this tour provides access to the quarry by vehicle. So we were able to spend some time below in the quarry and see the "stairs of death" where many prisoners were forced to carry granite rocks up to the camp on their backs.
After leaving the quarry, we stopped for lunch at the Landzeit restaurant in St. Valentin. It is a large roadside restaurant offering typical Austrian food in generous portions. The drive back Vienna offers time to reflect on the experience and arrives in the city before dinner time.

Extremely moving and informative experience. Josef, our guide did a very good job of providing context on the drive from Vienna to Mauthausen. We had plenty of time to properly explore the camp itself at our own pace. Travel to and from was very comfortable and relaxed. Not an easy day given the subject matter but the tour was really well done. Highly recommend!

Gracias para compartir su opinión sobre la visita. Lamento muchísimo que el memorial no cumpliera con sus expectativas. No estoy seguro de lo que esperaba ver y nunca he estado en Sachsenhausen, pero en los últimos años el monumento se ha esforzado mucho en restaurar y actualizar el museo. La mayoría de nuestros huéspedes se van con una buena impresión, así que lamento mucho que no haya sido así para usted.

Very moving experience. The trip there included a video of the site’s history - which was great. The pick-up and travel was without issue. One of the better day trips out of Vienna

We would like to take the train from Vienna to Hallstatt, stopping to tour the Malthausen Concentration Camp on the way.
However we will have our luggage with us. Is there a place to store it at the train station or nearby?

we will be in Salzburg for 3 days are you able to travel to the memorial on your own and then gain entrance to the camp and does anyone know what the entrance fee would be doing it this way

We did the tour but entrance in general is free. You can walk around and see the camp but I highly recommend the self guided audio tour (looks like it’s also free per their website). The route seemed pretty easy, all highway so if you have a rental I imagine it’s an easy trip. It was about 2 hours from Vienna. Good luck.
