On Saturday, May 31st, 2024, thanks to the rainy weather, the Hachimantai summit rest house parking lot was able to park smoothly without any traffic. Due to the still snowy season, I rented a pair of boots at the park service center. As long as it was just a 20-minute one-way visit to Dragon Eye, sneakers could be used if it was OK to get dirty, but there was a lot of snow near the summit of Hachimantai, which many people pass through, so it was a must on the large course around Hachimannuma.
The Dragon Eye did not turn bright blue due to cloudy weather and was just a little black-eyed, but it was a rare experience that made me feel satisfied to be in this wonderful place at this time. If you have a chance to visit Tohoku at this time of year, please give it a try.

This is an extraordinary place. Well worth the visit.
However, one should check if the eye can still be seen. It is different each year depends on the weather and sometime it is either still covered with snow or already totally melted. We were on june 1st 2024. Can still be seen but not for long.

Kagaminuma is famous as "Dragon Eye".
Durng the limited period of the late spring, the ice in the pond is melting from the coast. The remained ice floating at the center of the pond makes beatiful contrast of ice and water. It looks like big eyes, as if it is dragon's.
However, Hachimantai is not only Dragon Eye.
We can enjoy trekking around the park with great scenery of mount Iwate.

八幡平山頂遊歩道にある「鏡沼」。
春の雪解けの様子が龍の眼に似ているといわれ、「八幡平ドラゴンアイ」
5月下旬から6月上旬に観られることがある。
雪解けの様子がまるで龍の瞳のように見える、季節限定の絶景です。自然が起こす神秘の絶景「ドラゴンアイ」は、毎年決まった時期に出来るとは限りません。
残念ながら、悪天候で視界が狭く、見づらかった。

ナビに遠回りされやっとの事で到着。駐車場は入り口近くは有料、ちょい下のところは無料。たまたま無料のところに停めてドラゴンアイを目指す。歩いて10分くらいのところにあり比較的近くて安堵。
見られました！
曇っていて少し周りは汚れているが確かにドラゴンアイ！
ドローンを持ってき忘れた。。。ドローンで撮ったら最高なんだろうな。
案内板もあるので迷うことはないかな。

ドラゴンアイの少し手前で熊に遭遇。身長160センチくらいの成獣。10メートル先、遊歩道上に居た。2020/8/21 12:15pm頃。
もしも会った場合は落ち着いて慌てず、走らずにゆっくりと後ずさりする。
関東から新幹線とレンタカーではるばる行ったのに、ドラゴンアイ、その他池は一つも見られず。。恐怖で再度遊歩道を歩く気もせず、、滞在時間30分程で帰りました。
ガスってる日はよく出るそうです。皆さん気をつけて！

自然が織り成す造形。ドラゴンアイとは、よく言い当てていますね。ドラゴンアイに近づくと、なんと言うか、あの魔性の眼球に透視され…、自分自身を見透かされたような、錯覚に。

今までこの観光地を知りませんでした。
ただ、知ってから行きたくてたまらなくなり。
調べたら大体6月の上旬との事でこの日を狙いました。
当日は晴天
駐車場は混雑してましたが、入れ替わりもあるのでスムーズに。
下の駐車場が偶然空いたので入れましたが後で気づくと下の駐車場、歩いて5分くらいのところは無料です。
ドラゴンアイは歩いて15分くらい。
雪が残りましたが、舗装もされてるから歩きやすいです。
マラソン靴で行きましたが、気をつけて行けば問題なし
見れました！
ガイドさんに聞くと3日前6/6位に現れ、後1週間持たないくらいとの事でベストの日
綺麗でした。
一度は見たい景色です。
その後に１時間近くかけて八幡平頂上に行き帰ってきました。
他の沼も水が透明で景色も絶景でした。
行って良かった。

最近何か話題になってたのと、今時期しか見れないと言う事で、見に行ってきましたドラゴンアイ。もともとは山頂付近にあった沼なんですが、その沼に積もった雪が岸から溶けてゆき中央にだけ残った為シンビに思え、また龍の眼のように見えたもんだから、ドラゴンアイだそうです。本来はさらに中央の雪のさらに中心も雪が溶けると開眼と言われ、これを見に何度も皆さん見に来るようですよ。この時期下界は暖かいですが、山頂付近はかなり涼しく雪もあります。長靴にちょっとジャケットを羽織り見に行ってみては！
