a wonderful place- fantastic testament to the cultural aspects of this great city. Great complement to so many other beautiful sites in the city

The Archiginnasio construction dates back to the 16th century. The name Archiginnasio came about to indicate the building housed the school of the university of Bologna. The Archiginnasio ceased to be a University in 1803 when it was moved to Palazzo Poggi where it remains to this very day.
Within the Archiginnasio ,on the second floor, is housed an ancient library with over a million books. You can view this part from a doorway and take photos. The room from which this is viewed from is a great hall that is used as a congress room, it is known as "Sala dello Stabat Mater" in memory of the first performance of Rossini’s ,Stabat Mater.
The walls of the building form an enormous heraldic complex, made up of six thousand coats of arms painted on its walls. It is a beautiful sight.
The upper level of the building still houses the anatomical theatre, which was built in 1636.This was used for anatomy lectures. It is a beautiful room that was bombed in WW2 by the allies on January 29, 1944, the room suffered extensive damage, but was reconstructed, using all the surviving elements retrieved from the rubble.
The entry Fee was 3 Euros each. You can download a informative description on your phone with the QR Code available.

Archiginnasio Di Bologna was the site of the oldest university in the world. It was built between 1562 and 1563. The architecture is exquisite and the whole place is full of history. The building ceased being a university in 1803 and has been a library since 1838!

The books' exposition was interesting and the Archiginnasio's architecture beautiful. However, it was not possible to buy ticket at the cash desk for tour and the Anatomical Theatre. There was a barcode to scan but there was no good enough Internet connection to complete the transaction. I tried 4 times with 2 different phones. The staff was not helpful.

This is a unique anatomical theatre beautifully executed in wood panelling and carved figures. It is located in the historic university of Bologna and you can access these premises for free, only paying a small fee to see the operating theatre, which is very worthwhile.

Beautiful historical building. There is not much to see, however. I am not sure if it is worththe time and money. Not a priority.

Impressive Attraction. For us clearly a must-see for a Bologna tour. The modest entrance fee is definitely worth it.

We came here to visit the Teatro Anatomico. In the lecture hall there are wooden sculptures of famous physicians such as Hypocrates, very impressive. You need tickets for this and they said that they could only be booked online. However, you could also buy tickets on site. It's definitely worth it and afterwards you can go into the Stabat Mater hall, where the premiere of Rossini's work of the same name took place. A must for every visit to Bologna and the price is completely reasonable.

The University of Bologna is the oldest continuously operating university in the world. It was established in 1088.
After visiting the Anatomical Theatre, which takes about 15 minutes, we spent another thirty minutes wandering the hallways and visiting the library.

Hi, I'm an exchange student and was wondering if there's a place to do work? I have my own laptop and everything just need a space to do it! 😄
發表日期:2017年7月17日
yes, and you get unlimited wifi connection and can listen to music all you want.
in the main city square (piazza maggiore) there's the entrance to SALABORSA, one of the public libraries of bologna.
you can find all the space and services you're looking for there.
and I'm sure you will never forget how good that place looks also. it's beautiful.
you'll be also walking on a glass flor enabling you to see ancient Roman ruins.
more info on the library's website,
there are also other public libraries around town, where you can find the same services. coose which suits you best depending on your schedules and travels around town.
depending upon which services you use, you may need to register. registration is free, but if you're here temporarily they won't give you books or multimedia at home, you can only use them on site.

We well be visiting Boligna in September and are wondering if guided tours are available. Grazie.
