Saint Biagio Church, previously known as Sant'Agata alla Fornace, is a church located in Piazza Stesicoro. The church faces the ruins of an ancient Roman amphitheatre, most of which is buried under the piazza and surrounding buildings. The site of this neoclassical church used to accommodate two churches in earlier times one of which was dedicated to Saint Agatha. This church had been built on a furnace from which the saint miraculously escaped according to legend.... Sometime in the late 17th century the present church was built.

Fascinated by the external beauty of this Church, I convinced the people who were with me to visit it.
Admission is free, while the furnace is charged. We did not visit the latter for lack of time.
The interior disappointed me a bit, but it is still worth it.

Celkově ten kostel je hezký, ale nejvíc dělá ta vyhlídka. Z prvního patra dobré, ale to hlavní je úplně nahoře. Bomba. Vidíš krásně Etnu, náměstí, na moře. No prostě si uděláš představu o městu. Jednoznačná zastávka zde!

The guided tour was very useful for contextualising the history of Catania and the character of S. Agata, the archaeological focus was interesting. Clear and pleasant explanation. The guide was very helpful and friendly.

Today we visited this beautiful church led by Emanuele, a highly competent and visually passionate boy who explained the entire church to us and then invited us to visit the church of S. Domenico where his colleague Giulia, also very knowledgeable, completed our tour . Truly very pleasant to listen to their stories and tales, so well told that you can almost relive the story of St. Agatha and the Dominicans. Super recommended! Thanks again guys

I visited the Church of San Biagio-Sant'Agata alla Fornace together with my friends, assisted by a very sweet and very knowledgeable girl named Olimpia who exhaustively told us the history of Sant'Agata and showed us the furnace.
