Animals sold live, inter alia, in compliance with the law prohibiting the display of live animals and fish, not adequately contained in aquariums.
Heartbreaking the vision of a live octopus kept in a small plastic box with a trickle of water trying to escape and the attendant abruptly putting it back inside.
Please don't give your money to these traders. The containment and treatment of live animals for food sale must be dignified.

Leaving Piazza del Duomo we passed by the Fish Point of Sale. Crowded and chaotic as often in these cases but did not make a great impression on me compared to other similar markets seen in the world.

Absolutely fantastic. A selection, incredible. The prices for it, nothing unlike Germany. Everything fresh, whether fish, fruit, vegetables. Everywhere also stands to enjoy the things.

Not the largest,mostly seafood market,in Europe. Right near the main plaza. Main tie period 0900- 1130. Not much food being cooked in the market but plenty of options along the sides. The area quickly becomes grimy with filth,garbage and graffiti any direction you go but that is the case for most of Catania. A lot of work would have to be done to include controlling crime for this to be a desirable destination.

Unique and characteristic place of Catania, worthy of being lived both day and night, lately, however, is filling up with annoying street vendors of various junk that, with nagging rudeness, annoy tourists who are often forced to leave, as I was very annoyed during dinner in the street that, entire families of foreigners including many children of Eastern Europe annoy the patrons of the premises with nagging requests for coins. About Catania and the year zero.

It's like visiting an open air aquarium that suddenly got frozen. The fish is not swimming in water but lays on ice beds. From massive swordfish heads to tiny anchovies, all the Mediterranean fish species are exhibited here. Visitors can even taste some of them, since many sea food restaurants are lined up right next to Fish Market. Stray cats sneaking between fish-mongers stands and sea birds trying to catch some leftovers are normal sights.
A noisy place overall but full of life and colors. Around noon, some areas might be smelly during summer season, so better visit the place in the morning.

Il mercato del pesce di Catania è aperto domani mattina 15 agosto (ferragosto)?

Purtroppo la omerica non è aperto il mercato, salvo a trovare qualche ambulante, ma è ufficiale. Vai a visitarlo dal Lunedì al Sabato e vedrai che spettacolo! Si, è davvero spettacolare.
P.S.: Mi scuso per aver risposto con tanto ritardo, ma soltanto adesso ho letto quanto hai scritto

Ciao, nei dintorni del mercato del pesce ci sono molti ristorantini e chioschetti dove poter mangiare qualsiasi cosa, nel mio viaggio a Catania mi sono reso conto che trovi ottimo cibo ovunque e si può dire anche a qualsiasi ora!
