Great sculpture garden, interesting exhibits, great building, wonderful staff. After giving us information on the sculpture who built the place, and showing us photos of the construction, the staff person even advised us about where to have lunch. And the place (Floran) was great!

Nice little museum. Rhere is only one room with sculptures. Under the dome is a eoom but with some videos. Cool sculptures for sure. I like some quite a lot. The museum is a bit outside the centre, but not too far with bus.

We were staying at Grand Hotel down the street so decided to visit before we departed on an excursion… didn’t realise it didn’t open till 1pm… our fault. We toured the property and saw several sculptures… there weee several other people wandering at the same time! He was very talented and we will go again when we can go inside!

Very much enjoyed the museum - Sveinsson was a talented abstract artist, both in his early works (which were recognizably human, and his later works which were more abstract.
Best part of the visit for me was the young lady taking tickets and introducing the exhibit (was her name Anna?). She not only gave me insight into individual works, but shared stories about Ásmundur himself - how he was an early feminist, reminding viewers of the hard work performed by early female settlers with works like the Water Carrier, and how the local children liked him so much that they would gather sand for him when they visited the beach. Her storytelling made the exhibit come alive, and I highly recommend speaking with her if you visit.
The sculptures in the garden are well worth seeing. I was lucky - it started to rain just after I finished seeing the garden and went inside!

This museum had a good selection of art! I would return here on my next trip! They even have a café too!

A little out of the way museum in an adobe inspired architectural building. It is small and it was the studio of the Icelandic sculptor Asmundur Sveinsson. A garden around it contains various sculptures. I would not urge you to make a special trip to it, but since it is part of a group of 3 museums you can visit with the same ticket, then you may wish to see it. Be prepared to walk about 1/2 hour in order to get there.

amazing house, now museum, and sculpture garden. ticket is part of the reykjavik art museum trio, highly recommend a visit. no cafe but defo worth the walk from town. the man who worked there was extremely knowledgable, kind and charming. dont miss this place.

Got a taxi here and had the place to ourselves. Wonderful sculptures is lovely interesting setting. lockers for your bags, coffee provided. What’s not to like?

We were renewing our wedding vows, something not common in Iceland. We had decided on a Humanist officiant, the fantastic Helga. When I found Asmundarsafn online, I knew it was the perfect place for our ceremony.
While we had hoped to use the outside sculpture garden, the weather did not cooperate. How wonderful that the museum manager, Claus Sterneck, embraced our ceremony and love for each other. He invited us in and allowed us to choose a spot. We hadn’t hired a photographer. Claus took photos of us we will treasure.
The museum itself is a treasure. Bathed in light from the upper floor dome, the pieces are beautiful and complex. Named for famed Icelandic artist Asmundur Sveinsson, the space is homey as it was his home.
Make your way to this wonderful work of art!
