Four of us took booked this tour as a day trip from a visit by the cruise ship Maasdam. After booking, I corresponded with Mrs. Miller and she found us a birding guide, Jafet Potenzo Lopes, for our trip--in addition to our excellent driver, Andre. Potenzo took us to good forest habitat in the mountains above Dili (over 4400 feet), but the hard rain on the day made for difficult and frustrating birding. After a good lunch in Ailou, the rain subsided and we were able to find birds in various patches as we descended from the mountains. If I come to Dili again, I would do this again.

I booked a private tour to do snorkelling in Atauro Island on June. The tour fee is US$124 per head (very expensive). When we got to Atauro, did some visits and waited to do snorkelling. The staff said it was dangerous to do snorkelling so they can't let us to go as we were not a good swimmers. They asked us to get on the boat immediately (!) and went back to Dili. The guide was emotionless and he said we could discuss the refund issue with the owner. We waited for three hours to get on the boat ( no idea why urge us on board so early) . And when we got back to the Tour office, they said it was because of the weather so they can't give us any refund! OMG. What an excuse. At least they should give back us the cost for snorkeling. So we pay $124 just for the transport, a simple lunch and unprofessional guide, the tour even stopped early than it promised! What if everyday bad weather? The management is super irresponsible! The worst experience for a local tour I have ever had so far. Please think twice before you book any tour on them.

We had a fun ride in the microlet to the beach. Very relaxed, stopping to take photos along the way. Walking over the scenic Christo Rei hill to the back beach. Shaded, quiet beach. About 80-100 metres off shore the coral reef began... and a whole new world opened up. Best day ever... fish of all shapes, sizes and colours. Easy access. Take plenty of water, snack and sunbloc. Then we went back to Beachside Hotel for a fantastic burger lunch on the beach. Also stopped at Art gallery and fruit market. Lopes was a great guide... relaxed and fun company for the day.

What a great tour this was, our day started out heading off to local markets, buying all of the produce we would need, our guide was the owner and she explained all of the different foods, spices and herbs, it was really great to see what things look like direct from the tree. We traveled on local buses (microlets) and everyone wanted to practice english on us. Cooking classes started with lovely Sodonia who soon has us stripping the flower of the banana, grinding pepper corns, cleaning seaweed. Timorese food is all about the preparation, the cooking time was very short. We made 6 amazing dishes and then got to eat for lunch with our guides. This was a really interesting tour and the owner and the staff could not have been more helpful and answered all of our many questions. Must do while you are in Dili.

There were so many things that were bad I almost don't know where to start. I can start with the good thing though.
The guide Anas was very focused on our happiness and that we would have the best experience possible.
My issues are with the owner Kym.
- We were gonna go on a day tour with a guide in the area and she told us that we could go 10.30-11. However the tour was supposed to start at 8 so the guide came there at 8 and waited for us until that time, and when he came up to us to say we should go(around 10) Kym just waved him off and said 11 is ok.
- We booked a 3 day tour with a guide who would also drive the car. It was 120$/day(which is super expensive) PLUS accommodation and food, not only for ourselves but also for the guide. On the day of the tour we were told he was sick and we had a driver AND a guide, so we had to pay for food and accommodation for another person and no money taken off from the 120/day.
- We had said we wanted nature experiences and to go to Matebian mountain and Jaco Island, but the owner Kym had made an itinerary that had a bunch of other stuff that she most likely would've made some commission for if we'd gone there, so she got mad at the guide for changing the itinerary to what WE, the CUSTOMERS wanted.
- Before going on the 3 day tour we were talking about going to Atauro for my friend do dive and me to snorkel, but there were no boats on our last day to make it to our flight in time so we were saying maybe just for the day or maybe change our flights for later. When we came back for the 3 day tour, Kym had booked it for us without checking with us before. When we said that we wanted to look it up ourselves in peace and quiet and see what are options are, she got mad and basically yelled at us for wanting to cancel the super overprices 1 night trip she had booked for us without our consent.
- When we then went to the place by ourselves we found our that she was the only one taking commission - and not a little. Comparing to what we paid ourselves and what she wanted to take - she would've made like 50$ for 1 night. No wonder she got mad. Also she was drunk when that happened (I think she was almost a little tipsy or drunk)
But seriously, I have never had anyone in the industry being that rude.
Seriously, I don't recommend anyone to use her, which is too bad for the people she's hiring who are great but her behaviour just isn't acceptable nor professional.

These people are terrible. I wrote to them asking for a 10 day tour of East Timor and got no response. After 2 weeks I wrote again and got a proposal for a 4 day tour. I wrote again and asked for a ten day tour and finally got a proposal. I then wrote to confirm and got no response. Its been three weeks now. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Especially avoid Kym Miller who doesn't do anything.

We loved our day out with a guide and driver from Dive, Trek and Camp. They organised everything for us as we went along; when we passed points of interest, they stopped and let us take photos, explained things as needed, and got us into touch with locals. The driver handled the car expertly on difficult roads, and the guide even managed to procure an invitation from a local family for us to have coffee with them in their home - the highlight of my day! I can absolutely recommend this.
Note, though, that road conditions in Timor Leste are very poor and so the trip may take longer than expected. Do not plan for other activities in the evening, even if you are only taking a day trip. Also, such tours are probably best undertaken by adults.

We usually travel independently but being short on time and hearing about some of the logistical challenges with getting around Timor-Leste we decided to organise a four-day tour with DTC. We’re so glad we did! A lot of the tourist ‘sites’ in East Timor – even including in Dili - are difficult to interpret on your own, and English isn’t widely spoken. Having guides made our experiences a thousand times more meaningful than they would otherwise have been, and we had the chance to learn about the country’s history and culture through our guides talking about their own lives and experiences too. It also gave us access to some more spontaneous cultural experiences and exchanges, from visiting local schools to seeing how local people cook, that ended up being the best parts of our trip. We had absolutely delicious food for every single meal. Our guides were fantastic and our driver was extremely competent and careful in navigating the challenging road conditions. Be aware that some of the accommodation is fairly basic even though it’s the best available in a given place - and we were not bothered by this. Just make sure you’re clear about what you’re comfortable with! Timor-Leste is not cheap and any private tour will cost you a fair bit – but from our perspective it was absolutely worth it!

Our group had the best tour guides and driver. Kym is really knowledgeable on the gems and treasures in East Timor. She tweaked our programme according to our wants and interests. We even had some surprises that were not originally planned on the itinerary. Anas is a good entertainer as well - a charmer, teaser and singer! Marcel, the driver, kept us safe with his skillful driving. Thank you to all of you for the excellent tour of the beautiful country.

I am travelling solo, why would I pay for 2?, A 1 day tour of Dili $530? don't think so.
