Stunning site, set in a large park with lots of other attractions & pagodas. Well worth a visit, just leave yourself plenty of time as there is such a lot to see.

If you are in Taiyuan this place is definitely a “Must go” ... very beautiful and you can go inside the pagodas. Ticket costs 30 Yuan. After so long time finally it opened again this month! I am so glad That I had time to see this place before I leave Taiyuan!

You can visit this place if you have plenty of time and don't know where to go.
The East pagoda (built in 1597), was slanted in the 20th century but experts managed to upright it and correct the tilt.
The West pagoda was built in 1612. In charge of the pagoda’s construction was a high ranking monk, named Fodeng.
The pagodas are the tallest set of twin pagodas in China.

Heel mooi architectuur. Niet te veel drukte met toeristen. Heel rustig.

It's nice to see one or two little pieces of history still left in Taiyuan, which is mostly a city of urban sprawl.
I took a taxi to the twin pagodas from the hotel, after 2 taxi's refused to take me there for unknown reasons. The third taxi dropped me off in view of the site (when he saw new customers), but it was still a 1 Km walk in hot summer sun, through a shanty town to get there! Make sure the driver drops you off right at the gate or be prepared to walk through a maze of motorcycle shops and fenced off construction to get there.
Note that you need to buy a 30 Yuan ticket at the house downstairs before you alight the stairs and watch the step as you enter, as it trips everyone up including children.
The area itself is not large but the towers are worth seeing close up and see what they (the first one which is open) is like inside. As one reviewer below suggests, people who are claustrophobic or not good on their feet shouldn't try and climb it to the top.
Visitors without arranged transport may have trouble leaving the site to get back as I didn't see a lot of taxis around and the bus had long departed when I arrived.
