This excursion was amazing! Our family did the waterfall & zip line combination and we all had an amazing time. I definitely recommend paying for the photographer to accompany your group. We had Hector who was awesome and took so many great photos and videos! It was worth every penny!!

From start to finish, the accommodations were top notch, endless drinks, information and more! Alexander the Great and Indiana Jones were so kind, positive, informative, safe drivers and more. Alex knew exactly where to take photos, told us all the historical facts about the DR and ensured we made it back to the ship promptly. We would recommend this trip to anyone!

Cannot recommend this company enough! Our ship docked half an hour earlier than it should have, so we were late getting to the pick up point. Raul (guide) and Henry (driver) were still waiting and totally understood. On the way to the pick up point, one of my water shoes literally fell apart unexpectedly. I told Raul and he said he would get me squared away. We stopped at a store on the way up to the zip line/waterfall park and he translated with the staff to help them find me a pair of water shoes that fit (I wear a size 15). Raul made sure we were assigned a great guide at the park - Villegas - and we loved the experience. The hike up to the zip line area is a great mini-workout. Raul had Henry stop at a chocolate store on the way back to the ship, as well as a jewelry store where we saw them making jewelry out of larimar.

The park is well organized and the waterfalls and rock formations are beautiful. The initial hike is a nice workout. Plenty of rest times. We only went to a few waterfalls because others didn't have enough water. Dominican lunch was very good. Pickup was exactly as described. Our guide was very helpful. I would recommend Iguana Mama.

We had a wonderful experience with Rafael and Henry. We ended up being the only two on the tour, so it was like a VIP experience. Rafael was very kind and knowledgeable. I wish he gave us a bit more information about the history and the culture of the area, but he answered our questions thoroughly when asked. The rum distillery was a great time and a stop I forgot we were making but so much fun. We ended up being gone the majority of the day which was nice. I highly recommend.

Fun and Personable!

We had a great time with Fernando and Alexander on this tour! We ended up being the only 2 on the tour so we had a very personalized experience. The lunch was delicious, and we tried some amazing coffee and hot chocolate. The tour to the top of the mountain was interesting and Alexander was very knowledgeable with the plants etc. I would 100% recommend!

Alexander and Fernando were fantastic! Alexander was very knowledgable and gave us not only history but color as well. He was able to identify every plant I asked him about in the botanical gardens. We had a marvelous lunch off of the beaten path, rolled cigars, ate chocolate, danced the merengue, had rum tasting, learned about amber and much more. My only disappointment was this tour advertised a tram ride to the top of the mountain but the team hasn't been functional in over a year. Fernando got us to the top though! I would highly recommend this tour.

A great experience for a couple!

Regarding the cable car, about 9 months ago the Ministry decided the cable car needed to be completely renewed. It's a two year project so, in the meantime, we're driving up. Raffy Infante, our tour guide, was phenomenal! He went above and beyond to make sure our group had a great experience. He also gave us plenty of history and info on the island/the sights we saw as we were driving to our excursion. The actual excursion was amazing as well! Beautiful, exciting, and not too hard of a hike to do some VERY fun things! Everyone was very kind and our tour guide Raffy went out of his way to show us everything we needed, keep us on schedule, and make sure we had fun. Thank you so much to Iguana Mama and Rafft for a wonderful tour and great day!

Cancelled abruptly

We booked this excursion and it was cancelled 2 days before our cruise ship arrived in DR with no reason given. Luckily I happened to get WiFi ashore on one of our stops and checked my email to see the cancellation. If I hadn’t, we would have gotten to the stop, walked all the way to the meeting area and waited and waited. It’s unacceptable to cancel for cruise ship passengers because we don’t often have internet on the ship.

Dear truleun, I can't look up your booking based on the information provided in this review. Please contact me directly at info@iguanamama.com so I can provide an explanation when I have your details. We very seldom cancel tours unless there is no other option and, we always do it at least a week in advance if possible. This past few weeks we have had days and days of torrential downpours leading to severe flooding. There were several days Damajagua was closed due to flooding and dangerous river conditions. They don't inform us until early morning of the closure. Once closed for dangerous conditions it takes a few days of no rain for the river to settle again before they reopen. If that was the case with your booking and Damajagua informed us of the closure we would have immediately cancelled your booking so you didn't have to get off the ship and make your way to the meeting point only to find out the park was closed. I do apologize for any inconvenience but, in situations like that, there is nothing we can do. If you booked through a 3rd party booking platform like Viator or TripAdvisor we only have the option to choose from a list of reasons for the cancellation. In this case the reason would have been "weather" and the booking platform should have provided you that reason. There is no option for dangerous conditions. Kind regards, Lidia / Iguana Mama

Hola Heidi! Canyoning involves rappelling as well as cliff jumping. Cascading is all cliff jumping. 27 Falls, and Ciguapa Falls are cascading. Magic Mushroom, Canyoning Supremacy and Rappellers Delight are canyoning. Each one is a separate tour.

I’m interested in the falls tour, but i am claustrophobic. How much of the tour is tight or enclosed spaces? I’m fine with the smaller drops and slides and the hike and the big pools. I can’t do caves or very narrow spaces or low ceilings. Is there many areas like this? If so are they avoidable or do you have to do through them?

It depends which Falls Tour you are interested in. Damajagua, Ciguapa Falls, Magic Mushroom, Canyoning Supremacy. We don't actually go into caves on any of them but, Damajagua for example has some narrow channels you'd have to swim through. Can you be more specific about the tour you are interested in please?

A group of 13 of us will be there end of March. Some very young and some "older". The kids in our group are 7, 12 and 13. Would the 7 year old be able to participate? Any concerns for the older ones (late 60s)?

Hi alinunez2! I'm guessing you are asking about the 27 Waterfalls of Damajagua? If so, the minimum age is 8 but it somewhat depends on the child. If he or she is big for their age and a great swimmer then it would be ok. If the child is small then they would not be allowed to go. One option would be that an adult in the group stays with the youngest and they hike just to the first fall and can swim in the fresh river pool to wait for the rest of the family to come down. Everyone can then hike back to the visitor centre together for lunch and return to your ship or hotel. Regarding older people in the group, if they are in good physical condition, can hike for 45 minutes on the 12 Falls or 70 minutes for the Full 27 Falls they should be okay. We have taken people in their 70's but, they are seniors who are physically active in their daily lives. I hope that helps. Please feel free to contact me directly. Warm regards, Lidia

Hola Matt, I'm not sure what you mean by hike. We don't offer just a hike but rather the 27 Waterfalls which you hike up to the top and then come down jumping, swimming and sliding through the lime stone canyon waterfalls and sluices. Tons of fun!

Hola Julie, Sturdy River shoes like Keens or Tevas are great. We recommend your toes be protected because the hike is rocky and some of the slides a bit narrow. Cheers
