HMS Bounty is a disgrace. On January 1, 2025, at around 6:30 PM, I visited this restaurant with my medical service dog and experienced blatant discrimination that violated both federal and California laws.
As soon as I entered, staff demanded to see certification for my service dog, despite the fact that he was leashed, calm, and wearing a vest clearly marked as a service animal. Without prompting, I explained that my dog is a service animal required for my disability and that he performs specific tasks for my condition. These are the only two questions businesses are legally allowed to ask under the Federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and California Civil Code § 54.2.
The staff ignored this explanation. The manager came over and insisted I show certification, a demand which is explicitly prohibited under California Civil Code § 54.2(b), stating that individuals with disabilities are not required to present documentation for their service animals. When I tried to explain the law, the situation escalated further. The owner was contacted by phone and, instead of addressing the violation, repeated the illegal demand for certification. Ultimately, I was told to leave the premises.
This treatment was not only humiliating but also a clear violation of California Civil Code § 54.1, which guarantees equal access to public accommodations for individuals with disabilities. My dog was calm, quiet, and completely unobtrusive. There was no justification for this outrageous behavior other than ignorance and prejudice.
HMS Bounty has shown they have no respect for disability rights, the law, or their customers. I urge everyone to boycott this establishment until they issue a public apology, properly train their staff on ADA and California disability laws, and prove they’ve taken steps to prevent this kind of discrimination in the future.

This place I can’t say enough great things ! The bartender is so sweet and makes a damn good drink. The prices are so reasonable , and they have great French fries. The ambiance is almost like you are on a boat. It’s also in an old hotel building.

Un posto pessimo… L’unica cosa buona è stata la birra… Per il resto nemmeno le patatine fritte sono buone. Il personale è simpatico e gentile… Però spiace ma non ci tornerò mai più.

Visiting LA for work and in the middle of Koreatown, I asked a colleague for a recommendation for a non-Korean lunch. Don't get me wrong: Nothing against Korean food. I just am so ignorant, I don;t know what to order. He suggested this place. Said Winston Churchill ate there. Good enough recommendation for me!
So I went there for lunch. It took awhile for my eyes to adjust as the place is dimly lit. I had to use the flashlight on my phone to read the menu. But when my eyes finally adjusted, I had a chance to look around. The place was filling up nicely. Clearly it is a local favorite.
And I can see why. The prices are very, very, very affordable. The lunch menu was, well, appropriate for lunch. Dinners were available, but there was a selection of sandwiches and salads. The beer prices were lower than any LA restaurant I had been in so far, but since it was lunch, it was a bit early to start drinking. I made a note to self: gotta come back for happy hour.
Service was very good and the waitress was attentive and solicitous. Toward the end she got very busy as the crowd had increased. But when the bill came I was pleasantly surprised at the total.
Overall a very good experience.

Taking you back to the '70s with these prices and even the salad dressing! what must this place have been like back then when the Ambassador Hotel was across the street! Well, it's wonderful! The nicest waitress, quick easy and delicious! If you drink this is even more perfect. It's a real bar! omg I hadn't been there in 20 years and we went for an office lunch! brilliant!
No nonsense, real food, no fuss, no pretention and the prices are ridiculous!

Awesome dive-ish bar. $5.50 happy hour "wise man" special gets you a shot and a beer. Try the famous baseball steak, or nish on their sizeable bar menu items. Dark, weird, and an awesome getaway from the typical LA bar, which may be more hip and swanky, but also probably comes with pretension and an inflated check.

Hi Maria. I cannot answer the question about parking fee. Although I was in the area for a week, I took an uber. But I can comment about safety. The neighborhood is quite safe and there are many professionals in the area at lunchtime. I would not be concerned about it.
