A really nice park to walk in. Not busy and very relaxing and plenty of shade on hot days! Highly recommended!

This is a very good place to go to and take a hike along the river and going to the Grist Mill and looking at the waterfall.

This is a review of the Fullersburg Woods Forest Preserve rather than the Education Center per se. We have checked out the center many years ago when children were smaller, but we spend all our time walking the trails looking for wildlife, seeing which wildflowers are blooming and enjoying the views of Salt Creek from the banks and the bridges.
The trails are well-maintained, suited for relaxed strolling as well running and cycling. Informal trails can be found in places as shortcuts through the woods or to the banks of Salt Creek. There something to enjoy throughout the year be it the frozen vista of winter, the gorgeous fall colors, or the lush growths of spring and summer. The woods are full of Black-eyed Susan and prairie sunflowers in late July-August.
We have reliably encountered white-tailed deer on most of our visits. There are signs of beaver activity (gnawed based of trees) and once spotted a furry animal plunge into the water and swim away. We have yet to sight coyote or red fox.
Mallard ducks and Canada geese are easy to spot. Less common but also easy to spot are the great blue herons and snowy egrets. All being waterfowl they are seen either along the banks of Salt Creek or in the shallows near Graue Mill, upstream of the dam waterfall.
Some of the songbirds are easy to spot. Robins are common. Red-winged blackbirds migrate back to Illinois as February and stay as late as December and so seem to be here all year. Another blackbird, the common grackle, has a similar migrating habit and is easily seen as well (shiny blue head with black-bronze body).
Right now barn and tree swallows are swooping through the air and skimming low over the water at Graue Mill. While easily visible their swift and seemingly random flight path make them hard to track with binoculars or cameras. If the sunlight strikes them just right you might appreciate their deep blue back and wings.
In contrast a red-tailed hawk soared overhead, never flapping its wings, riding the thermals.
Tougher to spot are the migrating songbirds. You can definitely hear them. The bright orange Baltimore Orioles were in fine form and there appeared to be a dense concentration of them by the Flat Bridge. We were able to definitely identify palm and yellow-rump warblers.
Easy to see and hear were the striking blue jays. Their calls, however, are raucous most definitely not melodious.
Listen for the sound of rapid knocking on wood and scan the tree trunks for woodpeckers. We spotted both red-bellied (a misnomer for the red color is on its head) and hairy woodpecker on a recent visit.

Fullersburg Woods has always been a personal favorite. Growing up I remember them offering field trips, nature talks, and even Halloween haunted trails. I sometimes get a chance to stop in to take a look as I did last November. The leaves were all long down, but the main path (and other extensions) offered me lots of places to explore. Visitors can also read about the history of the buildings and the local CCC chapter that built them. The only thing that needs work are some of the bridges and the main welcome center, although that could have been closed due to COVID. If you find yourself in Oak Brook and are finished with the hectic pace of the mall, stop into Fullersburg Woods for a relaxing stroll. It is worth the time.

We (wife and I) spent a sunny July afternoon hiking / biking through Fullersburg Woods enjoying the wonderful surrounding nature. Fullersburg Woods Forest Preserve in Oak Brook a hidden nature haven in an urban setting. The main trail is about a 3 mile loop meandering through the forest setting as it follows Salt Creek which winds around the bluff and past a few islands on its way to the historic watermill at the southern end of the park. The wide trail is paved with fine gravel, and is better enjoyed on a leisurely bike ride or on a hike. The trail crosses the creek a few times by means of beautiful bridges. The trail is well-marked and easy to follow and maps are located at major intersections of trail paths. Picnic shelters and rest benches are installed frequently along the trail. The dam/waterfall is worth lingering to enjoy. The other main features in the park like the Graue Mill Museum, Nature Center and Ben Fuller House were not open when we visited due to the pandemic.
Fullersburg Woods is very popular and is widely used for hiking, fishing and boating. This is a really enjoyable place.

I went to Fullersburg Woods the other day, but I am a Cook County resident. I am not allowed to park in their lot or walk in their woods since they are for only DuPage County residents now. Their large and obnoxious signs truly hurt my family's feelings. We have attended events and donated money which benefit these woods. DuPage businesses probably do not want my business either, so we will only shop and eat in Cook County. I noticed that Cook County does not restrict DuPage residents from taking a walk in our forest preserves.

It is a perfect spot to come if you have children and you want to educate them about nature and wildlife and more. And even without kids anyone can find something for themselves here.

Mosquitoes occasionally bothered us. We didn’t see any fish or waterfowl but did come upon white-tailed deer and fawn. The prairie sunflower, Black-eyed Susans, and Joe-Pye weed were all blooming.
It started getting a little too hot out in the open along the creek but there were no issues finding shade nearby in the woods. We did not enter the Graue Mill Museum and only briefly looked around the Nature Education Center as we wanted to hike.

The nature education center is chock full of fun activities for the family. It has a putty table that kids love to make tracks in, a bird nest that you can go into, and even a mammoth! The center also has a garter snake and an ornate box turtle. They also have seasonal activities like raising monarch caterpillars during the summer. It's a smaller education center but the kids want to stay for hours! Would absolutely recommend to anyone.
