The Bantay towere was originally built in 1591 as a watchtower and later converted to a bell tower. Due to questions of structural integrity, visitor can no long go into the tower or near it, but the view of the tower from down the hill is fabulous. The rough nature and deterioration of the tower lend all the more mystery and interest. Visitors are requested to register upon arrival and local guides show people around. While the guides were friendly, I found them to be more of a distraction than all that informative. Tips to the guides are voluntary but obviously expected.

The place is closed due to its structure affected by eathquake. But you can take pictures from afar. There are tourist guides who will volunteer to take some pictures. It’s up to you whether you give a tip or not. It’s not compulsory. But they took pictures very nice and know some tricks.

The first word it came to my mouth is WOW The fresh air, the tall and old trees, the spiral road and the weather makes me feel very comfortable before seeing the Bell Tower. And I love the sea in front of it.

This place is not easy to find. The bell tower is situated in the residential area. You could see the tower from a short distance. However, it is not easy to find the entrance. The entrance is the same entrance as the church. I had to ask a local for help to find the entrance to the bell tower. When I finally got to the location, I was disappointed that it is gated. No visitors are allowed to go in. The tower is so badly damaged that it is not safe for people’s to go near the structure. Visitors can still take pictures from afar.

leider wurde der Belltower beim Erdbeben im July 2022 beschädigt.
Deshalb kann man im Moment nicht bis zum Tower gehen. Ich hoffe, er kann repariert werden.

Every part of it has an history. The oldest tower in Ilocos that can gives you a best experience and memorable moment in your life. Before you enter make sure to registered. It is not compulsory to donate but for the sake of the place they use it for the maintenance. As far as I know we visited this place at March 27 2019. They don't allowed students to go there in class days to prevent cutting of classes. It has a small window that is very old but full of history. It is not that hard than you think to go upstairs because when you're inside of it, it has a cold temperature so you can feel comfortable at all. Your eyes will be relaxed of its view vicinity and see the whole place of Vigan which the Bell it self is very heavy. It's absolutely well preserved and maintained that's why the fresh air and its peacefulness helps you to overcome your fear, problem and anxiety.

Fait partie d'un beau tableau autour de l'église St Augustine qui mérite elle aussi une petite visite . Nous y avons pris de magnifiques photos lors du mariage de nos enfants.

Was visited this place last summer of 2018, April. I think it's better to come here by afternoon since its typically hot during the morning 'till noon.

At the very top of the, there are gaps between the floors so anyone who are in lower floor might see your, entire, soul. Well not really, but there is a feeling of awkwardness that when you are wearing loose clothing and feeling that someone below might accidentally see your gorilla fur covered a@@. ....
