Signs are still in place (although often torn off) and the by-law still runs...
A quick tour on the site of the municipality concerned, the region, etc., the ban is still valid and since the summer of 2024 even provokes petitions from tourism professionals...
Considerable work needs to be undertaken, after many studies (And everything comes at a cost)
Namely that many hikers defy the ban but that no free help will be realized!!!
In the end, rescue is by helicopter, no other choice.
I've been with you for 38 years and I deplore these behaviors, it doesn't just happen to others and when a hiker has to take out 5,000 euros in rescue costs it cries.
You commit to it is your problem, but do not write in plain sight that it is reopened when it is totally false.

The trail is well reopened. For the landslide, there's just one big rock left, everything else has been cleared. The most beautiful hike in Europe made with children aged 10 and 12.

Extraordinary and splendid hike. It’s magnificent, we were amazed 😍. Waterside passages, elevated passages, a ladder, handrails, steps.
It's sometimes dizzying but so beautiful. Avoid with young children. Quite difficult end with a lot of elevation gain.

Beautiful hike directly in the Verdon Gorge, but not for inexperienced hikers. There are very demanding sections that require surefootedness and a head for heights. You shouldn't underestimate the path out of the gorge at the end (at least 400 meters in altitude) and you have to ration your strength. But it's totally worth it! Simply impressive and beautiful.

A beautiful route! Make sure you:
- are on time (we were there at 8.15 am and saw a maximum of 10 people during our hike)
- have good walking shoes
- Carry 2/2.5 liters of water per person.
Steel cables, stairs, holding on to tree trunks, under rock formations and especially steep climbing/scrambling after leaving the gorge. After crossing into the forest you have seen the highlights and you walk relatively quietly to the parking lot from where you started.
We used the Komoot app; the route is not always well marked!

molto spettacolare, se non sei allenato calcola almeno 5 ore. il sentiero inizia con una ripida discesa su pietra che secondo un sito si faceva in 20 minuti. ci abbiamo messo quasi un'ora, circa 40 minuti al ritorno perchè ti appoggi con le mani. calcola che poi ti fermi spesso per ammirare il panorama

Sinds zomer ‘22 staat er een bord: niet betreden. Dit i.v.m. vallende rotsen. Toch gegaan… achteraf te horen gekregen dat het toch best gevaarlijk is en er stukken rots loszitten. Maar dat is achteraf.
De hike opzich is echt prachtig! De wilde natuur maakt dat je je heel nietig voelt. Deze review schrijf ik om één ding te vermelden; ga niet alleen! Deze hike moet je echt samen doen omdat er stukken tussen zitten die gevaarlijk zijn. Ik was een klein stukje verdwaald, iets te ver doorgelopen, en heb dat als zeer onprettig ervaren. Als je dan samen bent kun je daar samen uitkomen.
Dus, een partner/maatje, goede conditie, genoeg water en goed schoeisel vereist. En geen hoogtevrees.

L'Imbut is a great, though challenging, trail and it is important that hikers know what they are getting themselves into. TL;DR do 90% of the L'Imbut and turn around after enjoying "Le Styx". We did it in perfect weather, and definitely don't attempt this if it's rainy/slippery out.
L'Imbut is an "out-and-back" trail, but the trail maps all show a loop, and that loop includes the Vidal trail up the sheer cliff's face, and a long topside hike that parallels the road (I wouldn't recommend walking on the road even though it's shorter).
L'Imbut was very much worth it, and free as far as I could tell. The best place to park and start your journey (we were coming from Moustier-Sainte-Marie) is in one of the several unmarked (presumably public) parking lots around the Logis Hôtel du Grand Canyon du Verdon. The trailhead is a short walk from there along the road toward the northwest, and is obvious from the road. You can alternatively get to this trail from the other side of the Gorge, but everyone who did it seemed to regret it.
The trail is fantastic, though sometimes steep and always rocky, from here until just after "Le Styx", which is marked by a little sign towards the end of L'Imbut and has some of the most awe inspiring rock formations just past it.
Our recommendation is you stop before the next handrail, cliff's edge trail along the river and turn back around to see the same sights from the other direction for these reasons (we found no mention of many of these details elsewhere):
- These are the most dangerous, fear-of-heights triggering sections of the L'Imbut, with a few rememberances of lost hikers sprinkled through.
- The sights from here on out are not better than the ones you have already seen on L'Imbut so far.
- The Vidal trail is the only way to get topside aside from turning around and it is extremely steep. Almost every scary section has a very sturdy handrail, but there is little room for error. You will be too busy not looking down to enjoy the sights on this trail (unless you're completely ok with heights and cliff's edges).
- The topside hike that parallels the road is long and not terribly scenic in comparison. These views can mostly be seen from the road as well. It is marked as 3.6km (the road was 3.1km back to the parking lot, but more dangerous) but it felt longer than that.
Only do the full loop if you are a strong hiker who is not afraid of heights. Any member of your group who is afraid of heights, or unsure about their hiking skills, will make it too dangerous to be worth it. We only took this route because everyone else was doing it, but no one knew what they were getting themselves into.
To be clear, I highly recommend the L'Imbut trail, but only the 90% before that last ledge-walk, and definitely not Vidal or the top-side trail.

Nous avons dormi à l'hôtel du Grand Canyon afin de partir directement le matin par le sentier l'imbut. Prendre des bonnes chaussures et des bâtons. 200 mètres de dénivelé environ pour 30-40mn. Ensuite arrivés à la passerelle de l'Estellier, puis c'est parti jusqu'au Mescla à peu près 1h30. Coin idéal pour déjeuner et puis retour de 2h jusqu'au notre hôtel.
Trop long de faire jusqu'au point sublime. On le fera demain dans l'autre sens.

Bonjour,
J’ai lu que le sentier des cavaliers (rive gauche) avait été fermé fin 2019 à cause d’une chute de roche et qu’il fallait passer par le chalet de la Maline. Est ce toujours le cas ?
