While in Aiguines, on our return from our stay in Gréoux les Bains, we decided to see again this Museum of Tourneurs sur Bois, which had interested us so much, to the highest point. This atypical museum, opened in 2014, is located in the heart of the village, Place de la Résistance, with, below, a gallery of 4 craftsmen workshops, still in activity. In this museum, the interest is that ancestral know-how and contemporary creation rub shoulders and this is how it is labeled at the Musées de France. Over a space of 250 m2, eight exhibition rooms, for the discovery of the history of the territory from the Gorges du Verdon to the plateau of Canjuers and the village of Aiguines and its wood turner, installed since the 16th century, to the present day. Moving from craftsmanship, craftsmanship, to the artist, according to the pieces turned, their functions, and their destinations. A visit, in modern scenography, educational, audio-guided, interactive, with a toy workshop and demonstrations. A short film highlights the types of tools used to work the roots of the boxwood and heather and the way they are cut, in the forest and with technical developments, from the 12th century, to the industrial development of the 19th century and, this revival of wood turning in the 21st century. To be discovered, the precious work of the Ferreuses, these women of the village, who were responsible for studding, with multiple small points, that they hit, sitting in front of their doors of houses, to realize, the boules of pétanque, see also, that of Lyonnaise, of the time, after being turned by the craftsmen. A transmission of this ancestral and artistic know-how, with the Escoulen school, cad, the International School of Wood Turning.

Very beautiful museum allowing you to discover the activity around wood and particularly the pétanque ball and its origins. The videos are very interesting, as well as the reproduction of a workshop from the period. Magnificent creations made by master wood turners. It’s a shame that the reception is not up to par!

Our correspondent, Aiguinois, Martial, introduced us to his cousin, Luis, a wood turner, in the village of AIguines. An artisanal profession, which by economic necessity has become an artistic profession. In its beginnings, it was the wood turning of the studded ball which was the origin of the pétanque ball, or even that of the Lyonnaise ball. This museum, opened in 2014, is certified by the Musées de France, and it presents ethnographic collections, over 250 m2 of permanent and temporary exhibitions. A modern, fun, educational and interactive scenography reveals the activity from the 16th to the 20th century and in particular that of the specialty of "ferreuses" and their manufacture of balls, in the roots of boxwood and heather, turned and covered with a multitude of small nails, which they struck, seated, in front of the doors of their houses. A unique, recognized know-how from yesterday, but which, with the creation of the International Woodturning School, sees its future become contemporary, because it is now focused on the creation of works of art , on demand. Presentation of parts, according to their functions and destinations and detailed explanation with demonstration and Ludo-bois workshop. In the town there is a school dedicated to the trade and 4 active turner workshops.

Joli musée ludique et instructif ou l’on peut découvrir les métiers du bois de la région et notamment les tourneurs sur bois qui fabriquaient des boules de pétanque et des ustensiles de tous genres créés principalement à base de bois de buis. On apprend à reconnaître les essences de bois. On peut visualiser un film qui explique de la coupe jusqu’à la réalisation des objets en bois. Il y avait aussi une exposition temporaire remarquable sur des objets d’art.

nous avons trouvé ce musée par hasard sur la route menant au lac St Croix, un musée très bien conçu avec des partie explicatives sur le bois et le tournage et une partie ludique avec des petits tests très bien pour une famille .L'entré est à 3,50 € ce qui est plus que raisonnable en vue du lieu. Plusieurs boutiques côtoient le musée.

En arrière saison ( octobre ) nous sommes venus visiter ; c 'est instructif et nous plongeons dans le passé d' Aiguines , son histoire, ses habitants , sans omettre le présent. Bonne visite .Toutefois , un bémol : la dame à l' accueil s'est révélée guère affable ; de surcroit , cette dernière nous avait ( par mégarde ? ) servi un thermomètre en hêtre . Nous nous sommes aperçus, en sortant du musée , que l' indicateur mercure manquait .Eh bien, selon cette personne , il n'est pas obligé qu' il y en ai un !

Village ayant tiré ses revenus principalement du buis du Verdon. Petit musée moderne expliquant le travail de ce bois et d'autres. 3€50 l'entrée pour les adultes. Nombreuses boutiques dessous le musée.
