We were looking for something to do early in the morning that would be a change from the usual things to do in Vegas. After reading TA reviews, we thought this place would be perfect. It’s very nice, well managed, and free. We enjoyed our walk around the ponds and our views of the wildlife.

Excellent place for birdwatching and photography. No entry fees too. I went at 7:30am and there was plenty of bird activity. Lot of geese around as well, and smaller birds too (with some patience!)
Recommend to anyone looking for a nice nature walk in Las Vegas as well!

Amazing variety of birds to be found in a small space! The preserve is very well laid out so the visitor can spend as much or as little time as desired. At the entrance there is a restroom, a small gift shop, and a display of taxidermy reflecting some species that might be seen in the area. Seeing relative sizes of different birds was helpful. I recommend purchasing the fold-out species guide of the area if you are not familiar with the birds you might see.

Best to arrive early morning, we arrived at 10:30 am, saw some birds, not many. Many water based species in ponds. There are 8 separate ponds to observe, good amount of informational boards, nice walking layout.

Eine Oase in der Wüste. Wunderschönes Vogelschutzparadies! Verschiedene Seen, Blick auf die Berge. Herrlich!! Verschiedene Wege führen den Seen entlang. Schöne grüne Vegatation, Schilf, Cottonwood Bäume, Mesquite Bäume, Sitzgelegenheiten, Vogelbeobachtungsposten, Boardwalk, Aussichtspunkt, einfach toll und erholsam.

This place is a real gem for people that love nature and walking at the same time. You see different birds during your walk around the preserve. Also inside has a mini museum and gift shop.

Sweet little bird preserve. It also has a butterfly garden, so depending on what time of year you go, you may also see Monarch Butterflies!
The location of it is a little out of the way, but I love that it is completely enclosed and that there is one entrance/exit. I only wish I would've brought my running shoes, as they have ~5 miles of paths throughout the preserve.

Call us boring but my husband and I prefer activities off of the Vegas strip when we visit the area. I loved bird preserve. It brought me so much peace away from the loud world. We weren’t very good at identifying birds though. I got really excited when I thought I spotted something special only to realize it was a price of trash on the tree haha! One thing I would suggest is if the place could provide a laminated guide to birds in the area for the guests to use and reuse. I will be back to visit for sure!

This place is really nice. It has a number of lakes that attract all sorts of interesting birds. There is also nice vegetation. The paths are primarily dirt. It is a nice place to walk around and see view the birds! I've been multiple times and have never run into crowds.

Population spot for bird watchers and morning strollers. We visit in the morning before it gets too warm. Many birds are seasonal. More varieties during warner months.

Hi,
I’ve done a little research, and checked on Ebird, and Henderson was mentioned often for seeing the Costa’s hummingbird. I will be visiting during the very beginning of August, and was wondering if anyone could tell me if I’m likely to see them around that time.

We saw them when we were there a month ago. The naturalists were excellent at helping identify birds. If you time it right, you might be able to ride the loop with them. We got there first thing in the morning.

How would someone go about finding a guide to help with the birds here?- from a southerner with limited knowledge about western birds😉

You can also go onto a Cornell website called ebird which will let you research what has been reported there recently.
The birds are mostly aquatic species which also occur in the SE US.
The truly southwestern stuff will be in other habitats. Here are some other areas and the number of species reported

Their website says hours are from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m. with last admission at 1:30.
From the reviews it sounds like there is a Visitor Center or some other sort of staffed access building. Is that staffed at 6 a.m. ? Thanks!

I'd say yes because you need to sign guest book before entering. It's a small center with a few items for sale and a small learning area. Enjoy.

The seasonal birds, such as ducks, migrate through, so I guess it would all depend on the weather conditions in the U.S. at the time of your trip. There are about 8 ponds to hold swimming fowl, so there's plenty of room for many birds. I agree that you should call them and ask on average how many birds they see at the specific time you're traveling to NV. Good luck.
