The mileage on the sign posts seemed somewhat off. The trail gets a little murky at different spots, but we made it to the arch. Wear good shoes as there are a lot of loose rocks on some parts of the trail. Bring lots of water if you go during the hot months. You can continue on to the Colorado River Overlook. So worth it.

I hiked again with a small group a couple of weeks back. This is best time of year for this particular hike. For the past couple of years the Park Service has closed off the parking lot on the east side of US 93 highway during the hot summer months. This uphill spur hike as well as the one continuing along the main wash toward the river and up to the hot springs is discouraged during this period. And now, because of the Covid 19 warnings, the trail is now temporarily off limits again. So I wouldn't be too optimistic about hiking it again anytime soon before the fall. There are other trails along both Lakeshore and Northshore roads on the Nevada side which could be used as substitutes.

In Arizona, across the Hoover Dam. Find the parking area 4 miles south of the bridge on the left. Follow the canyon trail under the highway toward the river. Once out from the canyon walls look for a cairn identified trail to your right. Follow it up and around. You'll pass some old mining activity and see the Arch in the distance. Make your way toward the arch and then to the overlook. Very peaceful spot when no one is around. There's an alternate way to return, but don't stress out if you can't find it. It's very hot here in the summer. So return the same way.

Start out on I-515 in Las Vegas. A little south of Hoover Dam on US 93, you find a trail head on the same side of the road as the huge dam and visitor center. Quite popular, there are always cars parked in a good sized lot, also showing a vintage old highway bridge. The gravel trail follows the wide natural wash down under the newer highway toward the river. That Colorado river is the state line. Terrain gets more interesting the father you walk. Thick, colorful sandstone has been eroded over a very long time. There is a fork in the trail about 2/3 of the way to the arch, one side leading to the hot springs also near the river.
