Shipbottom is a quiet beach area in the midst of Long Beach Island. Aside from Cape May, Long Beach Island is known for having fine sand beaches. We went just after a supermoon so the rip tide was fairly intense and several places were designated as no swimming. The waves were intense, but so much fun. There is no chair rental or beach umbrella rental. We had the former, but needed to be okay with a hot summer day. We loved it though! NJ has some of the best beaches in the country and the world. Too bad you have to pay for access and entry.

A friend was not going to use their beach house that they rented in a last minute change of plans so we got to use for the weekend in Ship bottom beach. We’ve never been so it was a nice surprise and only stayed for the day. The place was steps away and convenient. The area is quieter compared to the other sections of Long Beach island since the area was mostly privately held homes rather than the hotel stretches on the other sections. It was a great calm time and the water was very cold due to time of the year. We were not crowded in and got some much needed rest to do nothing. My teen got bored after a while with no friends but still worth a day trip. Getting there was easy surprisingly. We heard traffic usually is problem. I only gave it 4 stars because I am not much of a beach person. Not on my number top 5 things to do.

The ocean air is so refreshing. A little chilly so we did not stay long. Beach is clean and the surf rough. It's very busy here in the summer, hard to find close parking and no facilities.

Ship Bottom beach has been my beach for 10 years. We like that we can go right over the bridge and be at the beach. The life guards are at the beach all summer and weekends in September. I was at the beach today October 3rd and there was still a truck of lifeguards patrolling the beach for safety. October 1st through May 1st dogs are allowed on the beach- so we had to bring our golden puppy for his first visit. There were a few other dogs there too. My husband enjoys surfing here all year round.

We love LBI and especially Ship Bottom Beach. It's my favorite place to spend time. The only con is that there are no restroom facilities available. It would be nice if the town would at least have some portable toilets.

This was the only good part of the trip besides the food. Beautiful beach! The water was pretty clear for a NJ beach. I would return.

We were in Long Beach Island for our daughter's wedding and took advantage of a day off to visit the beach. It was mid September so the crowds had mostly left LBI. This is a beautiful beach with soft sands with nice views everywhere. One of the top three beaches on the "Jersey Shore".
The water was very cold. It was after the season so badges aren't required.

The beach here is not crowded, the water is kind of cold but the shelf makes it easy to watch kids from the shoreline.

Went to this beach for a few hours, sand was soft and the sound of the waves sounded amazing. The parking was hit or miss as it is street parking. I used my in-laws season long beach pass so I do not know how much they cost. There were no restroom facilities available.

There are not beach views from the vacation home. The condo is a few blocks from beach access.

Only good in Ship Bottom. Every town on LBI requires their own beach badge unfortunately

Do you know if they let the kids toss a football or stuff like that? I know surf city beach we were not allowed to play with balls on the beach which kind of stunk

First time to LBI, trying to figure out what beach to go to. Day trippers so we will need access to beach and public restrooms. We like to swim and I hard currents can get rough the more south on the island you go, so i was thinking about Ship bottom. Are there public restrooms and where should we try to park to be near that beach? thank you!!

I have only had a problem once about 5 years ago. Prior to 2012 a few of my summer tenants in Holgate complained. I hear it has not been much of a problem since then.
