Simply amazing wood working skills and imagination on display in every panel of wood carving. Rack panel of Huon pine is 3 metres tall and have been carved to jointly tell the evolving story of Tasmania. The detail of many of the panels is incredible.
The entry price has gone from $12 to $20 per adult ( with no Concession price) which is a bit expensive, but it no doubt goes towards the cost of the impressive building that houses the display.
We bought the hardcover bound photo book as a momentous of the visit, however one glaring omission from the book is a full length photo of each side of the display, which would really show the impressive size of the complete work. Now I fully realise that some panels are still a work in progress, but it is disappointing that this wasn’t included in what is a very nice book. The obvious intention is that to get that view you also need to purchase a foldout cardboard phot of each side, at an extra $12 each - a poor substitute against the quality of photo reproduction in the book

The Wall in the Wilderness is one of the most amazing pieces of art work I have ever seen. Incredible detail, which needs to be seen to fully appreciate it's passion and beauty. A story of this remarkable area, people and animals.

The art was excellent but the parking was poor and totally disorganised. Not caravan friendly at all. Overpriced. No concession price at all. Signage was abrupt, dictatorial and discourteous . It cost $20 but we saw it easily in 20mins. Doesn’t compare to other attractions for the price.

Creative. Thought-provoking. Inspirational.
Amazing skill, vision and tenacity.
Clearly a labour of love over many decades by an artist committed his craft.
A fellow traveller said they weren’t going to bother visiting because they ‘weren’t going to bother to see something that was still a work in progress’; their loss, as the incomplete bits enrich the overall exhibit.
Well worth the look.

Would like to post some photos to show how great this place is......but wait we can't because you are not allowed to take photos ☹️ While we appreciate the painstaking effort the artist has gone to, to create this magnificent masterpiece, the $20 pp entry fee is a bit much, not even a concession price for seniors.

This display is gobsmacking. The artistry is extremely intricate, and the story it tells very sobering. I absolutely applaud the artist

Welcome to the Wall, weary traveler. Here lies greatness, and you're lucky to witness this marvel. We’ve enlisted a rude female staff member to ensure you feel less than welcome. Break any rule posted on the ubiquitous signs (No phones! No misbehaving kids! One-way paths only!), and you're out, missing this sacred experience.
Did you dare seek a restroom before purchasing tickets because no one was at the ticket counter when you arrived, as did the owner of this TripAdvisor account? A violation!!! We activated our staff member to confront you.
You explained you just needed use the facilities and would return to the counter to buy tickets. She let you go, but not without voicing disapproval. Ah, but it’s not over. When you exited the bathroom, she demanded $20 from you just to pee. You reminded her you planned to pay to enter the exhibit. She refused and said, “Just get out!”
So, potential visitors, be grateful if you're allowed in. Heed every sign, follow each directive, and be thankful for the opportunity. But beware, should you stick even a pinky toe out of the box we've confined you to, you might just find yourself outside the gates.

The most unprofessional and aggressive staff member was enough to keep us out! Looking to immediately use a restroom after a two hour drive was treated as an unforgivable transgression. With no one at the door, we walked to the restroom. Afterwords, as we were proceeding to the entrance, the staff person angrily engaged with us. Two of us were incensed enough to walk away while our friends attempted to explain… again our need to use the bathroom, which resulted in this unpleasant woman yelling for them to leave!!! Sadly, our friends were telling this woman they wanted to pay and see the exhibit! Why is this woman in a customer service position!? You’ll see prior reviews characterizing a similar interaction with what I assume is the same staff person. The only difference being that prior reviews suggested $15 was too much for what they experienced while the charge now is $20!

This is an art installation created by sculpter Greg Duncan. Out of respect for the artist and the work itself, no photography is permitted.
It consists of 100 panels carved from Huon pine. It tells a very moving story. It shows emotions, movement, blood coursing through veins, strength, weakness, youth and age, machinery, nature.
I found the work extremely moving.
Very well worth the visit.

I do not leave negative feedback, I guess there is always a first! “The Wall” left me feeling disappointed and irritated that I drove out of my way to pay the exorbitant $20 entrance fee. VERY UN-impressed. The whole feel of the exhibit, the artist statements, and lack of respect to art viewers was very cold and pretentious. The artist needs to get over himself!

The short answer is no - but it's still well worth the visit.
He's an artist so I'm sure he keeps tinkering, seeking a (more) perfect result.
There is plenty to see ... and it's brilliant.

Agree with the previous answers, but keep in mind the weather. The main roads are good and suitable for all weather conditions, however if you go "across country" and use single roads or dirt roads they can be very tricky if you are not use to the conditions and roads. Also this area is in the highlands, so be prepared for the temperature.

As indicated by Peter H, there are various ways to travel there but if you are heading to the west coast from Launceston or from Hobart you will pass by anyway. The only disappointing aspect of this attraction is you cannot take photographs. If you are travelling to Hobart make sure you visit the Mona Exhibition. There is nothing else like it anywhere in the world - a must see if travelling to Tasmania.

And there are other incredible carvings to see as well. Why hurry? Take at least an hour, look from a distance, then move in close........ there is so much to take in
