This was a fun museum. A lot of Pittsburgh history.

I love that Mr Roger’s has been immortalized here. He was a favorite in our home.

War history, women’s history and the things I learned about the Heinz company!!!

The glass portion was fascinating! Many interactive activities for the kids too.

We only had 1 1/2 hours here but could have easily spent 4 hours. It’s wonderful!

The Senator John Heinz History Center is a wonderful history museum with so many different areas that everyone is bound to find something of interest. We only spent 2 1/2 hours, but given more time and energy, we could easily have spent half the day. The history museum is a worthwhile stop during a trip to Pittsburgh.

This is an outstanding complex for history! The first floor has a gift shop, food court, kids play area, and a rotating display (ours was women in history). The second floor was Western Pennsylvania and the Pittsburgh Sports Museum (multiple floors). The third floor had Mr Rogers displays. I was blasted back to my youth with the Mr. Rogers stuff that included old puppets, sweaters, and shoes! They also had a section covering the history of the Heinz company. They did a nice job with the building and the lighting, and it was a lot of fun. TONS of photo opportunities!

We nearly passed on seeing this musem because my wife thought it was about ketchup. It is so much crammed into one space. We should have planned a longer portion of our day walking around here. There is so much to see, I had a blast going down memory lane with the Mister Rogers exhibit. My son really liked the sports part. There are some interactive hands on exhibits for kids. There is definately something for everyone.

Plan your day here, you can also eat at their cafe, we took an uber from our hotel here so I can't say anything about the parking but it looked fine to us.

My husband and I were delighted to visit the Heinz History Center on our first trip to Pittsburgh. It is MARVELOUS!! The Center is housed in an old ice warehouse and occupies 5 stories that span virtually an entire city block. We started at the top floor and wound our way down. There were activity kiosks at every level, just off the stairwell (the “Take Steps” initiative), which made it a fun journey.

There is SO much to see there, and the exhibits cover SO many topics. There are five floors of wonderful, and each floor is thematically different. It’s easy to see why the Center is affiliated with the Smithsonian Institute. It is a truly incredible collection of pop cultural touchstones and personal artifacts from neighborhoods in and around Pittsburgh, dating back to its origins.

We got to visit Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood (!), trace the journey of Lewis and Clark (although, since we're from Missouri, we have to say that Pittsburgh is NOT the Gateway to the West!), view local artwork and sports memorabilia (including the Homestead Grays from the Negro Leagues), and read about famous folks from Pittsburgh who have contributed to our nation's cultural, scientific, and literary riches in the “Innovations” exhibit. Our favorite area was the “Neighborhoods” section, where we saw artifacts from so many different ethnic neighborhoods in Pittsburgh. The city is rightfully proud of the diverse heritage of its citizens, and it was heartwarming to recognize the care that had gone into creating and maintaining all the displays covering a sampling of the immigrants who have left their stamp on the city. We also enjoyed the “Visible Storage” exhibit with some wonderful antique vehicles.

The Center is extremely family-friendly, with lots of activities for all ages on every floor. The layout is open and inviting, with lots of space to linger at any exhibit that catches your eye. We spent almost four hours there, and still felt like there was more to see and do. It was simply an amazing time!

Note: AAA had given us tips about the surrounding parking garages/lots (since there isn't one directly connected to the Center), and we opted for the Convention Center parking garage south of the History Center because it was covered parking and a block closer to where we were walking next. The area surrounding the Center ("The Strip") has excellent choices for shops and restaurants (we chose an authentic Polish deli with fresh handmade-on-site pierogis), all within walking distance. The Center is easily accessible from all parts of the city.

A wonderful history museum. Even more enjoyable than I thought it would be. They've got Nelly Bly's famous gladstone bag (which she took on her 'round the world voyage). And quite a good exhibit on Pennsylvania sports, if you into that sort of thing.

What a great museum and site. It is so much to take in but we'll worth the visit. Never dreamed that Western PA contributed so much in so many areas. Quite remarkable. As a life long Steelers fan I loved those exhibits but the Mr Roger's area was so cool. The exhibition on slavery was powerful. Lewis and Clark...etc. very nice staff working this site. My sons who are 15 and 16 enjoyed it.

We were pleasantly surprised by how much there is to do and see. We did not allot near enough time to enjoy everything the center had to offer. Our nine-year old said it was her favorite thing we did in Pittsburgh.

One could truly spend an entire day here! Make sure you start at the top. If you don't want to take the stairs up to the top floor at least take the stairs down (if you are able). There is snipits of great information on the stairwells. AND if you take a paper and have it stamped on each floor you get a little gift from the gift shop ('Little' so don't get too excited). But it's still fun to do. This history center is great for history buffs and sports fans AND fabulous for people who love trivia.

WOW! This is one of the most in-depth museums I've been to. An incredible tribute to the city's history as an industry and cultural capital. Prepare to keep yourself moving through the museum, as you can get fatigue quickly with information overload. I am personally a sports fan, so I spent the most time on that floor but there is just so much here. Friendly staff and well priced. I would dedicate half a day here.
