Great little museum

Visited on a Saturday afternoon and it was not busy. Great two story museum on the history of the fort and how it changed hands from the French to the British. Many good exhibits.

Awesome journey!

When I came to the museum, I was so surprised. An excellent staff member gave me and my grandfather, and a few others a tour of the Fort Pitt Museum. The staff was very nice and always took questions. We saw all kinds of things and I absolutely loved it. I will definitely come back within 3 months. The window room on the second floor is a nice place if you want awesome views. I highly recommend you ask a staff member for a tour of the museum like I did for a detailed explanation of Pittsburgh’s history during the 1700s and early 1800s. I will definitely come back soon!

Nice small museum

Fort Pitt Museum offers interesting background on the Point State Park and the surrounding area, but also focuses on wider connections in and outside Pennsylvania. The museum is relatively small but has a nice collection of items. The upstairs exhibition was quite confusingly put together, with the numbered info plaques located in a difficult-to-follow order. The building has a nice viewing area displaying the Monongahela and Mt Washington. Would recommend, as well as a look into the connected Fort Pitt Block House.

It’s worth a stop.

We were very happy to see that this museum is open until 5 PM. We got to the museum at 3 PM and two hours is just the right amount of time to get through the museum. The information we learned was very good. There were a lot of artifacts, with explanations. A lot of reading is involved, so probably not the best place to bring children. Parking was next-door to the museum, take the main road to get to the museum.

very nice museum but we had to park a good distance away

This would have be a 5 star experience but their lighting inside caused a big problem with the lights reflecting in the glass making it very hard to get good pictures. Other exhibits also reflected in the glass. If you have time you can also take a very nice stroll along the Ohio River.

You will learn about the 18th century frontier life, learn about events starting in 1774, the history of 18th century Pittsburgh, learn about the french indian wars and the american revolution. They offer interactive exhibits for kids of all ages. Outside you will see the over 250 year old block house that is all that is left of the original fort. Unfortunately it was closed when we visited even though the site says it's open year-round. Be sure to check the site for the times they offer their living history events outside.

Very good museum on the history of the city

Very good museum on the history of the city. The Fort was very instrumental its development. Only wish it had extended hours since it was hard to fit in during the day.

The museum is small but has alot of great information and items concerning the history of Pittsburgh, Point Park and Fort Pitt. A partnership with the Heinz History Museum provides a discount when you visit both, Which is a great way to get a more complete history of our wonderful city.

Best museum on the French/Indian War I have seen

My twin 11-year-old daughters and I were the only ones in the museum. Every 20 feet was a sanitizing station with actual sanitizers. Very safe and well worth it. My daughters stayed engaged for the full 90 minutes we were there. The museum covers all aspects of the conflict from the French, Indian, British, and colonials as well as the causes, impact, and global history. I only wish I taught closer to here so I could bring my high school students. A hidden gem in a picturesque park.

This is a great place that gives history on the revolutionary war and french and indian war. Great sites of how they made a living back in the day and weapons of the time. Great model of what the fort use to look like.
