Very disappointing. It is basically a free-for-all playground for kids. Many of the hands-on exhibits do nor work. Not much learning is going on. Also, eat before you go. The food is VERY expensive and not that good. Basically heat lamp chicken fingers, grilled cheese and burgers. It is cheaper to eat at a Steelers game. I will say the miniature railroad is always a favorite.

Went during Thanksgiving week so very crowded. Some shows were delayed due to crowds but were interesting. Mars exhibition quite good. Titanic interesting, but layout of artifacts made for bunching up of viewing areas. Entry times should have been spread out more. Kids areas great and lots of activities for them.

This was a really neat museum. The submarine and the sports activity centre were the best parts. Would have given 5 stars except some of the interactive exhibits weren’t working..and likely haven’t been working for a while (based on how the state of them looked). Still fun!

Our most recent trip to Carnegie science Center (and we have many) included my niece and nephew, who were up visiting from West Virginia. They also had been here many times in the past, but this was the first time that they got to visit alongside their cousins. What a great time!
Open Wed-Mon from 10am-5pm, you have plenty of time to see it all!
First stop, H2oh! We love this area because everything about it is water-based. Whether floating a boat down a ramp and through your own tunnel, creation or tipping a huge water, lava balance piece, this area is sure to please! Walking back in through the section, you have the hoses that blow the beach balls, and lots of other fun areas. The kids absolutely love standing in front of the camera while they do the weather forecast. Beyond this, is a nice miniature live animal area. When I say, live animals, I don’t mean what you would find at a huge zoo. Just some aquariums, areas to watch the fish, peacefully swim, crickets, etc.
Being that we got there early, we dashed over to Highmark SportsWorks next before the crowd got there. The kids took their turns swinging the bat, playing operation, sprinting, hanging from the pendulum and more!
Did you know that the science center had a huge robot exhibit years ago and the robots are still on display down by the theater in the robot hall of fame? Don’t forget to get a gander at the basketball robot when you are spending time over at Sport’sWorks. This one has always amazed me!
After having a lot of physical fun next door, we headed back into the Science Center and onto SpacePlace. The kids LOVE the rocket launch and parachute drop!
Bricksburgh was our next stop! Where else can you find a huge Lego built soup can? My boys design cars and held a drag race. The shake tables are always a feat and the Shake Shack is still a fun time. Would love to see it really moving like it did in the “Earthquake” days. I believe it is supposed to be the same, but I feel it has slowed some.
Our timed ticket was ready and off to explore the USS Requin. State-of-the-art and battle ready when it set out just days before the end of World War II, Requin holds the distinction of being the Navy’s first Radar Picket submarine. Open daily: 10 am–4:20 pm (weather and river conditions permitting) you will not want to miss this! Remember, this is included with your general admission ticket to the science center and can only be done if you have purchased a science center ticket. Wow, does this put life for these men in to perspective. Tight quarters, but they made it home. The kids loved going through the portal doors and checking out everything from where they slept to where they eat!
The miniature railroad was next. This is one of our favorite areas. We could seriously spend hours here taking in every detail! The Miniature Railroad, which celebrated its’ 100th Anniversary in 2019, features hundreds of wonderfully realistic animated scenes that illustrate the Pittsburgh region’s rich and diverse history up until 1940. New models are added annually to the village. Each season, find something newly added!
Mars, the Giant Leap was next. Space vehicles were driven and space food imagined! Be sure to glance above your head at the plants within the lights!
Bodywork’s. Thus one is really something and has a few from above down to Mars. See how each part of the body works and even how it all looks, gross! A very cool area!
Last on the list for our little guy was Little Learner Clubhouse. He played with water and launching balls. There is also areas to make some musical noise and climbing stations.
Look into becoming a member and hit them anytime you are in Pittsburgh or a rainy day surprise for your kids! It definitely an educational and fun place for the kids to be!

Geared for kids mostly. Did only general admission and for that price not worth it. Beautiful place and in walking distance to Fred Rogers statue.

My husband and I wanted to go in the submarine. You have to buy tickets to the museum to go in the sub. We didn't have a lot to do that day so it was ok. I didn't need to see the museum but we made the most of it and played along with the kids that were there with their families!
The submarine was really interesting and worth going in if you have never been in a sub before. If you don't like small spaces, this is not for you. They left the orginal doorways so you have to step over. It's a self guided tour but you are with a group. I would go as soon as you get to the museum and get your reservation for a time to see the sub.

The main reason why we went there was because of the submarine. It was a cool experience by itself but the rest was so so. We did like the miniature trains though but other than that, the other areas are more catered to little kids. For me, paying $25 per person is a bit much.

Great exhibits, very family friendly, and something for all ages! Went here with our kids ages 8 and 5. Highlights were the water exhibit (great hands on for kids); dad LOVED the model trains; both adults enjoyed the Mars exhibit; all of us liked the body exhibit; and the submarine was the surprise hit for all of us. For littles, there is a play area on the fourth floor and a nursing area as well.
We spent 2.5 hours without doing the planetarium (included) or the IMAX (extra ticket required) and the kids could have spent more time at the sports building adjacent but we were hungry. Would allow 4-5 hours and eat on-site or pack a lunch if we were to go again.
To plan - you do need a submarine “ticket” in advance, but it is included and they admit a group every 20 minutes. Would recommend arriving at open and touring floors 1-4 to beat the crowd, signing up for submarine tour and grabbing lunch, then doing sub, movies, and burn it all off at the sports building next door.

Another great Pittsburgh museum the kids (and adults) loved. (For reference our kids are 2 and a half and 9 years olds. My favorite part was viewing the submarine (included in admission). Our 2 year old did not want to go in, at first, but then got more interested once inside. Plenty to see and do here for everyone. We brought snacks and ate in the gated area outside the sports complex. There is another area with tables on the river side by the submarine which connects to a nice bike path.

We went to the Science Center with our 7 year old grandson. All in all, it was a good experience however I would say the center could use some sprucing up both in terms of repairs and in terms of creativity. We/he enjoyed the sports area even though several things were out of order, the train set-up and anything that made noise. The laser show (Dark SIde of the Moon) was a bore and we left early. If we had planned ahead we would have toured the submarine which was reviewed well. Also, we would have liked to see a real sky show in the planetarium but our timing was off, so again, read up and plan ahead if you choose to go.

Thought to take the incline with the kids then go to museum. How do you get from Incline to the science center?

Are the exhibits geared towards kids or can a group of adults appreciate the museum?

The exhibits are geared towards kids as in there is lots to touch, cool things to see that attract kids, and things to figure out. It is also interesting to adults on a different level because the explanations about science adults will process on a deeper level, the submarine is great, and lots of things adults would find interesting to look at too. If the Lego exhibit is still there all the adults and children found that amazing!

On average, how long do you suggest it takes to experience the center?

It depends on your energy level and time constraint.I go frequently with my grandchildren \.We do 3-4 hours depending on the programs(EXCELLENT)scheduled.A lunch break is helpful in their spacious cafeteria (buy or bring).Plan on more time than you scheduled.Always a fine experience for ALL ages.
Can we bring and use a camera

There is plenty of parking across the streets in the stadium parking lots. I would assume there is RV parking nearby as they tailgate for football games
