There are a multitude of small restaurants one to two blocks West going towards Chinatown. A favorite of mine is Murphy’s Bar and Grill on Merchant street. Very popular and good food.

The kids might be a little too young to understand everything and what the palace represents. There are a lot of nice things for them to look at that holds history. Don't know if they would really get anything out of the visit but I'm sure you and your husband would.
