This temple is much larger than others I have seen in Macau Island itself and it’s a wonderful example of this type of place of worship. I really enjoyed my visit and would encourage other tourists to seek it out to see a different side of the city.

Among the three major historic temples in Macau, Lin Fung Temple may be the least visited. Although not on the major tourist route, it is the place where many key historical events happened. Lin Zexu, the patriotic mandarin, declared the edict to outlaw the sale of opium. Governor Amaral, who started the formal colonial rule, was assassinated here. Its historic significance far exceeds its size.

Lin Fung (Temple of Lutus) is one of the three oldest and more historically important temples in Macau. It is located along Ave. do Almirante Lacerda in the north of the Macau Peninsula and is open to visit from 7am to 5pm daily.

Fairly isolated to the main sightseeing area around the Historic Centre of Macau, this is a large and very interesting place to visit if you are particularly interested in spending time viewing Macau's best temple sites along with the Kun Iam Temple along Ave. do Coronel Mesquita and the World Heritage A-Ma Temple at Barra Square.

Lin Fung was originally built in 1592 but has been restored a fair number of times over the centuries. What you see today is mostly from renovations during the Qing Dynasty in the 19th century. The temple is three halls with three bays each along with several courtyards. You'll find traditional grey brick exterior with decorative bas-reliefs, stone lions guarding the temple entrance and a giant, bronze incense burner.

Within, you will find shrines with deity figures, hanging incense coils, wooden statues, ancient drums and bells and many other items of worship in the various halls. The courtyards have dragon and phoenix murals that are beautiful. It is all very interesting if you enjoy spending time in historic Chinese temples during your travels.

Note: In the main open space in front of the Lin Fung Temple, you will also find the Lin Xezo Memorial Museum (MOP$5) and statue of the important Chinese Commissioner who played a vital role in soothing and fostering the relations between the Imperial Palace and western foreign presence here in Macau. He was also a key figure of the first Opium War. This museum is worth a quick add on and can be conveniently seen before or after the temple.

It is a small and old temple popular among the locals. The temple is full of silence and you can see lot of different altars in different prayer rooms. Visit it if you have time and curious to see the Macau temple as it is slightly out of the regular tourist way.

i thought this was one of the lovelier temples we saw on our trip to hong kong and macau, it has several worship rooms each with elaborate altars and statuary, very atmospheric and there were quiet a few ceremonies happening whilst we were there that we were lucky to witness. it's not too hard to get to really, you can walk up there or just pick up a bus from senado square but we were staying at pousada da mong ha so this was just at the base of the hill. didn't visit the museum next door as we weren't aware of it but that could be worth it too...an earlier review gives more details on how to get there by bus

The Lin Fung Mui (Lin Fung Temple) was built in 1592 and can be found at the north end of Mong Ha Hill on Avenida do Almirante Lacerda. It is more commonly referred to as the Temple of Lotus and is one of the three most famous temples in Macau, behind the A-Ma Temple (Barra Square) and Kun Iam Temple (Avenida do Coronel Mesquita).

The Lin Fung Mui has been restored numerous times over the centuries, most significantly during the Qing Dynasty for which it takes is current size and architecture. In front of the temple there are impressive incense altars as well as a statue to the famed visitor Commissioner Lin Zexu, who stayed here on official business in Macau in 1839.

The front facade of the temple is attractive, featuring decorative facade reliefs as well as traditional stone lions guarding the entrances into the cluster of halls. Within the interlinking halls, you will find alter shrines to the likes of Kun Iam and Kwan Tai, decorative walls with reliefs, burning incense coils, intricate wood carvings.

In the end, we enjoy visiting Lin Fung Mui from time to time. Unfortunately, it is located a fair distance away from the Historic City Centre of Macau so you have to make an effort to find and visit this temple. Buses 1A, 8, 8A, 10, 28B, 28BX, N1B pass this direction for those interested.

Hint: If you are specifically targeting temple visits while in Macau, this is definitely one to see. We would recommend it just after the UNESCO World Heritage - A Ma Temple. You can visit along with Kun Iam Temple, which is only 10 minutes walk from here.
