Schade.... The museum is closed, although it should be open according to opening hours on the website. No information on this on site or on the website. I'm afraid that's bad publicity. We would have been very interested in the subject.

An excellent museum located on a narrow lane behind a church in Malfa. Its small size belies its outstanding collections documenting the massive emigration of Aeolian Islanders to other shores beginning in the 1880s. Salina, from example, dropped from a height of about 9000 inhabitants to about 3600 today. Stromboli has a total current population of 450 -- 10% of its peak. Since I was the only visitor, I received the undivided attention of the staff, who is extremely knowledgeable and able to bring the history to life. I ended up spending 1 1/2 hours there. Well worth a visit.
