The church is beautiful from the outside. The interior is simple and spoiled by modern paintings, a television screen that unfolds scenes from the movie The Godfather. To push you to pay the 2€ entrance, we have put a large panel that hides the interior space. But it's not worth it... Go to the Chiesa di Santa Maria or San Michele!

For us this was the most interesting part of our visit to the town. It is a hot, steep walk up to the church from the town square but there are tuk-tuk rides available. It is probably best known as being the church where Michael Corleone and Apollonia were married in the Godfather but it is full of information about the history of the church and St Lucy celebrations which was really interesting. It cost 2 euros to enter - cash payment only.

Picturesque church from the outside because it is located on a cliff in a gorge that opens towards the sea. You can arrive on foot from the small square of the micro-village which develops vertically. The monument has a characteristic façade, punctuated by battlements and Renaissance-style stone coverings and frames. The view is like a film, in fact Coppola used the outside of the church to shoot some scenes of The Godfather Part II. Inside, however, there is little of interest, poor taste architectural finishes and behind the altar simple but expressive frescoes on the martyrdom of Santa Cecilia, they seem to come out of a manga.

The church where Don Corleone got married! She is very pretty on the inside and is just as she appears in the movie. The walk through the town until going up to the church was also very nice!

Towering over the rustically stunning city of Savoca, sits the beautiful Chiesa di San Nicolò. Many have visited the attraction because it is a filming location from Coppola's, The Godfather. But there is so much more to know. This beauty was built in the 13th Century. Beginning in the 1600's, each year on the last Sunday in August, elections were held of the Jurors and Mayor of Savoca. The church has gone through restorations and one was most likely due to the Sicily earthquake in 1693. There are ossuary crypts containing remains of hundreds of villagers from Savoca hidden under the walking surface of the small square surrounding the church. These burials dated back to the 14th Century. It's possible to take a tuktuk up the hill, but walking would be easy for many. The view from the top is breathtaking and the interior is sweet. I highly recommend visiting Savoca and also the Chiesa.

The hill is hard, but if you are a fan of the Godfather saga you will go up because it is where Michael married Apolonia. You had to pay to enter, I don't know how much, but we didn't enter.

If you are already in Savoca, you should take a look at this beautiful church in a prominent location. The room with the film memorabilia is particularly interesting.

Savoca (Sàuca in siciliano) è un paese dalle mille attrazioni anche se in realtà è un piccolo borgo dove tramite un percorso è possibile visitarlo e ammirare le sue bellezza e la sua storia come la Chiesa di San Nicolò padroneggia ogni vista del borgo. +++

Deze kerk ligt op een mooi punt in het toch al fraaie bergdorpje Savoca. Zeezicht. Gebruikt als decor voor de Wedding Walk in The Godfather part 1. Leuke wandeling vanuit Bar Vitelli hierheen. Toen wij er waren was de kerk gesloten.

The views from Chiesa di San Nicolò (San Nicolò Church) are stunning. It sits atop the charming village of Savoca. If you are up for it, walk up the steep hill to the top and if you aren't, take a golf cart available for some Euro at the bottom. I was with someone who couldn't walk up, but we did walk down. This church is known for the location of the Michael Corleone's wedding to Apollonia in The Godfather, but it's so much more than that. It's a Roman Catholic church that was built in the 13th century. It was restored after damages from two earthquakes, one in 1693 and the other in 1908. The interior was adorned with Sicilian-Norman style frescoes.
