Excellent stay at Hotel Odinsve. We were upgraded to a superior room which was extremely spacious! Although it was freezing outside the rooms were really warm and cosy. The smell of the hot water from the sulphur was extremely bad however was told this is mortal in Iceland. Excellent location and was able to walk everywhere. Breakfast was also excellent!
Recent 5 night stay at Odinsve was great. Two friends staying, each with single rooms - one had slight noise from maybe kitchen below but otherwise really suitable. Single room on 2nd floor, quite spacious, nice to have a rug! Reception staff all really helpful -multi-lingual. Everything done in excellent English, as all over Reykjavik. Hotel in nice location amid houses (tapas bar opposite) near to the amazing Hallgrimskirkja and its adjacent bus-stop for any tours. Couple of reasonable restaurants nearby as well as the hotel's own French Snaps bistro. Slight niggle from a Brit - only powdered creamer on drinks tray, not good for nice cup of tea!
We stayed at the Hotel Odinsve (pronouned Odinsvar) in October 2021 and would recommend it for a city break to Reykjavik. I’m giving it four stars because it didn’t really have ‘the wow factor’ but it’s very nice, well located and has plenty of plus points. Pros: Boutique Hotel style - we staying in the hotel not the apartments. The rooms have modern decor, hardwood floors, black out blinds rather than curtains and minimal furniture but all the accessories you need including a mini-fridge are there. The TV had plenty of UK channels too. Bathroom - Our triple room had a big bathroom with bath and excellent shower. Essential after a long day out in the cold! Location - It is 5 mins walk from all the cool shops, bars and restaurants. I would gave regretted staying in one of the many hotels further East in the city as it would probably involved getting a taxi every night. Quiet - We barely heard any noise inside or outside unlike some reviews. Friendly - Staff were very helpful, phoning to confirm our return transfer to the airport for us. Breakfast - Read some reviews that breakfast was a bit minimal, but there was crispy bacon and scrambled eggs, delicious skyr, pastries, toast, cold ham and cheese, sliced fresh fruit, coffee and juices. It’s just low key, self service. Cons: No real hotel bar - You can step through to Snaps and get a drink there for sure, but it feels like an independent bistro in the evening so not quite same thing. This didn’t bother us as we went into town every evening. Walk to Bus Stop 8 - Hotel Odinsve is on quite a residential street so buses can’t visit it. Every bus - including airport transfers and excursions - picked us up and dropped off at Bus Stop 8 beside the cathedral, 5 mins walk away. No big deal to us but now you know. Lumpy pillows - like they’ve been in a washing machine. Probably Covid-safety, but not the best. Good stay overall, no stress or regrets for a quick city break this is a decent option.…
The hotel has a wonderful central location however for a four star rated hotel i found it a bit basic and more akin to a premier inn. Room was clean and tidy, little on the small side. Plenty of coffee, tea and turn down chocolates. An in house restaurant (breakfast would have cost me extra) and a bistro across the road at their apartments. Cleaners a little noisy if you are trying to have an afternoon nap (and i was awoken by one cleaner knocking as she left her sanitizing bottle in my room). Front dest staff very friendly and helpful.
My fiance and I stayed at Hotel Odinsve for about a week and it felt like a home away from home. You are pretty much as central as it gets in downtown Reykjavik. Literally, everything is within walking distance whether you need groceries or want to shop for souvenirs. The best part is that you have Hallgrimskirkja (THE church) as an excellent landmark for navigation especially if you like to explore on foot. It's almost impossible to get lost. I am a neat freak and the way the hotel represents itself does not disappoint. The room itself was clean, the styling was attractive, and the staff was helpful and welcoming. Highly recommend Hotel Odinsve, 5/5!!
