I traveled extensively out of state for work on a weekly basis for over 20 years. I know what good airline, hotel and restaurant service should be. I expect to get what I was promised and what I paid for, nothing more, nothing less. When service is poor, I tip accordingly. When service is outstanding, I have tipped as much as 30%. For so called "fine dining" restaurants, if I can cook it better at home then its not worth paying to eat there. Too many establishments take their customers for granted. I refuse to let that happen. Treat me as a valued guest / customer or I'll take my business elsewhere. I will be the first to complain when warranted, but also the first to recognize those things that are outstanding. Strange thing is that a lot of service help don't know how to react when someone compliments rather than complains. A lot of times they don't even say thank you. Is this where we are headed as a society?
